Spurs have reportedly made a decision over their next manager after sacking Thomas Frank on Wednesday morning.

The north London club parted company with Frank after their 2-1 defeat to Newcastle on Tuesday, which left them in 16th place in the Premier League table.

Spurs have won just two of their last 17 matches, and sit only five points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 games to play.

The Europa League holders now have a difficult decision to make over their next manager, given that there are only three months left of the season and relatively few top-level bosses available.

According to Sky Sports' Lyall Thomas, Spurs appointing an interim manager until the end of the season is their 'likely route', with the situation then to be assessed in the summer.

Former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is second-favourite with the bookmakers to make what would be a return to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but he first has to navigate the 2026 World Cup in charge of co-hosts United States.

Other options for the permanent role could include Roberto De Zerbi, who is the favourite to take over after leaving Marseille on Wednesday, and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola.

Who will be Spurs' next manager?

If Spurs do decide to go down the interim route, they could copy Manchester United's appointment of Michael Carrick in placing a former player - or manager - in charge.

Ryan Mason was a first-team coach under Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou and is currently out of work - albeit after being sacked by Championship side West Brom.

Robbie Keane is currently in charge of Hungarian giants Ferencvaros, while Harry Redknapp, 78, is perhaps more of a wildcard option.

Last month, Spurs appointed former Liverpool coach Johnny Heitinga as Thomas Frank's assistant.

Heitinga spent the first part of the season in charge of Eredivisie side Ajax, though was sacked in November after winning just five of his 15 matches in charge.

At the time of Heitinga's arrival, Frank told Spurs' official website: "John is a great addition to our coaching staff. His ability, personality and character will add huge value both on and off the pitch.

"He had an impressive playing career across Europe - including five years in the Premier League - and with the Dutch national team.

"As a former defender, that will be one of his main responsibilities on the training pitch, and he brings great coaching and management experiences from all levels of the game, which will really help us moving forward."
