James Maddison was asked by Jamie Carragher about the prospect of Tottenham replaying their controversial win over Liverpool.

In September, Tottenham edged past a nine-man Liverpool side 2-1 after Joel Matip scored an own goal deep in added time.

But in the aftermath of the heavyweight encounter, all the talk was about a Luis Diaz goal that was wrongly ruled out by VAR due to a miscommunication between officials.

PGMOL subsequently issued a statement admitting that a "significant human error" took place, calling the decision to rule out Diaz's goal "a clear and obvious factual error".

The refereeing body added that VAR should have intervened and failed to do so before undergoing a "full review" of the situation.

There were naturally calls from certain quarters to have the game replayed due to the VAR injustice, though they fell on deaf ears.

Some weeks later, in the wake of Tottenham's 2-0 win over Fulham, Reds legend Carragher mischievously took the opportunity to ask Maddison whether the aforementioned Liverpool game should be replayed.

Carragher jokingly said: "Big game Friday (against Crystal Palace). You've done really well. How do you think you'll get on in that replay against Liverpool?"

Maddison laughed and replied: "I just know by the tone of Carragher's voice that was going to be a silly question."

Elsewhere in the interview, a technical error led to Maddison's being able to hear opposition manager Marco Silva's interview through his headphones.

Upon being asked a question, Maddison appearing slightly baffled, said: "I can actually hear Marco Silva's interview in my ear now."

When Carragher asked him what the Fulham boss was saying, Maddison joked: "He's saying 'Maddison's goal was excellent tonight."
