Sky Sports News set to axe several high-profile presenters and reporters in shock move

The major sports broadcaster is set to part ways with several big names.

Sky Sports News is reportedly set to sack several well known presenters in a massive shake up of the channel.

On Monday, Sky announced that popular sports quiz panel show A League of Their Own will end after its upcoming 20th season, following 15 years on air.

Although a reason for the cancellation was not given, Sky confirmed that the final season would act as a 'joyous' send-off to the beloved show.

But it appears that this won't be the only major change at Sky Sports, as a new report has revealed that several top presenters and reporters will soon leave the Sky Sports News channel.

According to a report from the Daily Mail, a number of well-known faces will be made redundant as part of the changes, with staff made aware of the news on Tuesday at Sky's London headquarters.

A source told the outlet that the decision isn't based on cost-cutting measures, but instead to help make the channel 'more agile' and better equip them to serve the audience by becoming more flexible and creative.

However, they also added that coverage on Sky Sports News, which remains the UK's only 24/7 sports news channel, will remain largely unchanged and will continue to focus on breaking news.

A Sky Sports News spokesperson said: "We've shared proposals with the Sky Sports News team to change how we're structured, aimed at making us more agile and better equipped to serve audiences across TV, digital and social.

"A small number of roles are impacted, and we are now entering a period of consultation with those colleagues."

The news comes just two years after the channel made several major job cuts, leading to the dismissal of the likes of Geoff Shreeves, Martin Tyler and Bianca Westwood.

Speaking about the decision to let part ways with the staff, Sky Sports managing director, Jonathan Licht, told the Telegraph last year: “Generationally, there comes a time where the people that have been on screen for long periods and people that we’ve been hugely grateful for their exceptional service, there’s going to be points of natural change.

"What happened last year... I think people were joining lots of dots that didn’t necessarily exist. There were different circumstances.”
