Lorenz Ferdinand, the eldest son of former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand, made a winning start to his senior career on Saturday as his dad watched on from the stands.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who is contracted to Premier League side Brighton, made the switch to seventh-tier side Havant and Waterlooville after a work experience deal was agreed between the two clubs.
A work experience deal allows a young player to gain valuable experience in lower league football, with the loan often lasting for a few weeks or months.

In this instance, Ferdinand has joined Shaun North's side for the rest of the 2024/25 campaign following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Ben Dudzinski, who has been ruled out for the foreseeable future.
A club statement confirmed their new arrival on Friday.
It read: “Havant and Waterlooville Football Club are thrilled to announce that, goalkeeper, Lorenz Ferdinand has joined on work experience from Premier League outfit Brighton & Hove Albion for the remainder of the season."
The statement added: “Ferdinand, 18, came through the set-up at Brighton & Hove Albion where he now continues to refine his trade in their Under-21’s set-up. Lorenz links up with Shaun North’s side for the run-in as the push towards the end of the season continues."

After adding that they looked forward to seeing him in action "very soon", the teenager might have been a little surprised when he was thrown straight into the starting line-up for their Northern Premier League clash against Marlow FC.
The 18-year-old impressed at Oak Tree Road on Saturday afternoon as a hat-trick from Ryan Seager sealed a 3-1 win for the visitors.
Rio Ferdinand, meanwhile, was pictured watching from the stands as Lorenz made his much-anticipated senior bow.

Back in 2023, Lorenz signed a management contract with agency New Era Global Sports. His father, Rio, is as an ambassador and mentor within the company.
"Our eldest is on his own journey in football. Another nice moment signing with @neweraglobalsports , well earned through hard work and dedication." Rio said on Instagram.
"It’s a long road full of ups and downs, so the right and professional support is required - so step forward @neweraglobalsports. Love you Lorenz.”
