Premier League club 'make official request' for final game to be played away from home

Premier League club 'make official request' for final game to be played away from home

A Premier League club have made an official request for their final game to be played away from home, it has been claimed.

A Premier League club have made an official request for their final game to be played away from home, it has been claimed.

The Liverpool Echo has alleged that Everton requested that their final game of the Premier League season be away from home.

The Blues are set to leave Goodison Park at the end of the season and move to a new stadium on Liverpool’s waterfront.

And in turn, the club are said to have made the request to the Premier League as part of efforts to ensure Goodison Park receives the send-off it deserves.

The final round of matches next term will take place at the same time on Sunday, May 25. This would have created any potential for the Goodison farewell to have been lost in competing storylines on both ends of the Premier League.

It also means the attention of Premier League fans would have been split across multiple broadcasts, as is common on the final day.

In turn, Everton allegedly wants to ensure that their final Goodison match is a showpiece event, that receives the recognition they believe it deserves.

In turn, Everton chiefs are said to have approached the Premier League with the request to play away on the last day.

If reports are true, the request appears to have been granted, with Everton concluding their season at Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, their final game at Goodison is set to be against Southampton on the weekend of May 18.

Every effort is reportedly being made to ensure it is a stand-alone game that gives one of football’s most historic venues a deserved send-off after 133 years.
