PGMOL issue David Coote update as Premier League decision made over referee

PGMOL issue David Coote update as Premier League decision made over referee

The Premier League will return this weekend after the latest international break.

The PGMOL have issued an update on David Coote after listing the officials for this weekend's Premier League fixtures.

Last week, the PGMOL launched an investigation after an alleged video of referee Coote emerged on social media.

The man in the video, who appears to be Coote, said: "Liverpool were s***."

When asked about former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, he added: "A c***. Absolute c***.

"Aside from having a right pop at me when I refereed them against Burnley in lockdown, then he accused me of lying and then just had a right f***ing pop at me. I've got no interest in speaking to somebody who's f***ing arrogant."

Coote was then suspended by the PGMOL, a statement read: "David Coote has been suspended with immediate effect pending a full investigation. PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."

On Tuesday, ahead of the return of the Premier League, it has been confirmed that Coote will not be officiating in any matches this weekend as he remains suspended amid the ongoing investigation.

Sam Barrott has been appointed as the referee for Liverpool's away match against Southampton at the St. Mary's Stadium.

Meanwhile, John Brooks will take charge of arguably the biggest match of the weekend, Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking during a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher spoke about the situation.

He said: "He’s done something stupid, you can imagine what the fella’s going through.

"I don’t want that, talking about cancel culture, but my point being is how could he then – he could never referee a Liverpool game, but how could he then do a rival?"

Carragher added: "The thing I despise most about social media is not people giving me stick, it’s when a referee makes a decision and that whole fan base is like ‘the world’s against us’. My own fan base are like that, but whoever it is, I can’t get into my head that a referee’s like that because you’d never sleep.

"I just think because of what he said about Liverpool, I think it’s make it difficult. I don’t want to see anyone cancelled."
