Newcastle United are set to hand out a Carabao Cup winners' medal to a player who no longer plays for them after their historic victory over Liverpool.
The Magpies beat Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley, with Dan Burn and Alexander Isak on target in either half. Federico Chiesa struck late on for the Reds to set up a nervy finish but Eddie Howe's men held on to win a first major trophy in 70 years and confirm European football in some capacity next season.
An emotional Bruno Guimaraes led Newcastle players up the iconic Wembley steps before hoisting the trophy in the air alongside captains Kieran Trippier and Jamaal Lascelles.

Every player and member of the coaching team were then loudly cheered by the euphoric Newcastle supporters, including Anthony Gordon, who was in his Newcastle shirt despite being banned for the final due to his red card against Brighton.

But it's emerged that a former Newcastle player is also in line to receive a medal.
According to Roberto Rojas, association editor of ESPN, Miguel Almiron is poised to be given a medal. That is despite the Paraguayan returning to Atlanta United in the MLS in January after a six-year spell with Newcastle.

He played 178 minutes across four games in the Carabao Cup prior to leaving - including a cameo in the semi-final first leg win over Arsenal - therefore getting a medal in English football after his exit.
On X, Rojas wrote: "Miguel Almiron, despite leaving for Atlanta United in the winter transfer window, will get an EFL Cup medal after Newcastle United’s win vs Liverpool.
"Because the Paraguayan played four matches this season, Miggy will get his first & only medal in English football."

Players being given medals after leaving is not uncommon in football as often clubs are given a set amount of medals to distribute as they wish. Similarly, Lloyd Kelly featured in three Carabao Cup games this season before moving to Juventus on loan.
The 31-year-old played 223 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 30 times in all competitions.
What Liverpool fans did before Newcastle players collected medals
Every Newcastle supporter remained in their seats for the trophy lift but the same did not apply to Liverpool supporters. When Arne Slot and his team were receiving their medals for being runners up, a vast majority of Liverpool fans had already been spotting leaving their end - which was virtually empty by the time Newcastle's presentation took place.
