Newcastle are already 'exploring departure' of player they only signed last month

The deal would help them bring in a new goalkeeper.

Newcastle could sell a player they only signed last month by Friday's summer transfer window deadline, it has been reported.

The Magpies have completed six permanent signings this summer, including a £30 million deal for Lewis Hall from Chelsea.

Lloyd Kelly has also arrived from Bournemouth on a free after his contract expired, while promising striker William Osula has signed from Sheffield United.

While efforts to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace have stalled, Newcastle are also focusing their attentions on the signing of goalkeeper James Trafford from Burnley.

Trafford, who was part of England's training squad prior to Euro 2024, joined the Clarets last summer after impressing for the Three Lions' U21 side as they won the European Championship.

The Magpies had a £15 million bid rejected by Burnley for the goalkeeper, who struggled for consistent form during his first season as first choice in the Premier League.

But according to talkSPORT, Newcastle have gone back in for the 22-year-old with a view to completing a loan move with an obligation to buy.

However, Craig Hope of the Daily Mail claims that they will have to sell or loan out one of their existing goalkeepers to do so, with Odysseas Vlachodimos and Martin Dubravka - or potentially both - seen as the most likely candidates.

Vlachodimos only joined Newcastle on July 1 for around £20 million, with midfielder Elliot Anderson moving in the opposite direction to Nottingham Forest in a pair of deals that were partially to aid both clubs' attempts to fall within the Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Chronicle Live say that a loan move away from St James' Park is more likely for the Greece international, who played just five Premier League games for Forest last season.

He has attracted loan interest from Belgian giants Anderlecht, having not been named in either of Eddie Howe's competitive matchday squads this season.

In fact, neither Dubravka nor Vlachodimos travelled with the squad to the Vitality Stadium for Sunday's 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, with John Ruddy named on the substitutes' bench instead.
