Eddie Howe makes shock claim about the England manager job that has stunned Newcastle fans

Thomas Tuchel was appointed England’s new boss this week.

Eddie Howe has spoken about the England job for the first time since Thomas Tuchel was appointed.

On Wednesday, it was confirmed that former Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Paris Saint Germain and Borussia Dortmund boss Tuchel will take over as England boss in January.

Prior to Tuchel’s appointment, many managers including the likes of Howe, Graham Potter, Lee Carsley, Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp were linked with the job.

Speaking ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clashes, Newcastle United boss Howe has claimed that he was not spoken to by the English Football Association regarding the England role.

When asked if being overlooked by the FA ‘bothers’ him, Howe replied: “England have to do what is right for them and only they will know the processes they have gone through and the decisions they have made and I am certainly not the type of person that is going to analyse that.

“For me it's about Newcastle and trying to win games and it's hard enough to do that if you are 100% focused and I will always remain that way to my work. If you drop your levels then the job becomes impossible and at no stage have I allowed myself to do that.”

Reacting to Howe’s comments, one fan wrote on social media: “Howe's confirmation indicates a potential lack of direction from the FA in their search for a new England manager.”

Another tweeted: “Surely if he wanted to be considered, he’d have applied so why ask the question?”

A third fan added: “Absolute Joke this man was not offered the England job.”

When asked about Tuchel, the Magpies boss added: “I've got a relationship with Thomas and I was lucky enough to go and see him work at Chelsea when I was out of work. What a brilliant guy. What a great person. What a great coach. I had two days with him and thought he was fascinating and I wish him well. I think he's a great appointment and I hope he leads England to many trophies.

“My preference would have been for an English coach but if you are going to go foreign then go for the best and Thomas is certainly that.”
