UEFA Nations League matches to be shown by new broadcaster and fans aren't happy with one key detail

The Nations League will be shown by a new broadcaster in the UK.

UEFA Nations League matches are to be shown by a new broadcaster and fans aren't happy with one key detail.

The Nations League returns to our screens on Thursday as the likes of Scotland, Republic of Ireland, Turkey and Belgium are in action.

Scotland travel to Greece, Ireland take on Bulgaria, Turkey meet Hungary and Belgium face Ukraine, with Thibaut Courtois firing a shot at a player who quit the national team in protest against the Real Madrid goalkeeper.

Then, on Friday, the Nations League quarter-finals takes place as four blockbuster clashes are scheduled in the shape of the Netherlands vs. Spain, Croatia vs. France, Denmark vs. Portugal and Italy vs. Germany.

People in the UK will be able to watch the Nations League matches on Amazon Prime, having secured the rights following Viaplay's deal, with England's Nations League matches previously being aired on ITV.

On X, Amazon wrote: "The UEFA Nations League is coming to Prime Video in the UK! The action starts this Thursday, featuring Netherlands v Spain & Italy v Germany, £2.49 per match and no subscription required!

"The competition continues on Prime until its conclusion in June."

But one aspect of Amazon Prime's new deal with the Nations League has angered fans on social media.

Viewers in the UK will have to purchase each match for £2.49.

So, even if you are an existing subscriber, you'll have to fork out extra cash to watch each game.

One X user wrote: "2.49 per match? Read the room lads."

A second tweeted: "Would pay money not to watch the Nations League."

A third added: "Again, no one is paying extra to watch these matches as prime subscribers."

A fourth commented: "£2.49 per GAME!? That's insanely stupid."

It's not Amazon Prime's first venture into the world of football, having secured the broadcast rights of the Champions League.

Amazon, who also broke TNT's duopoly over Premier League rights that it shared with Sky Sports in 2018, secured 17 first-pick Champions League ties on Tuesday night until 2027.

Earlier in the season, Amazon aired the Premier League's Boxing Day fixtures.
