Micah Richards has revealed some X-rated details about life in the Olympic Village during the London Games in 2012.

Every four years hundreds of the planet's best athletes gather to compete in the Olympic Games.

With so many physically fit people all living in close proximity in the Olympic Village, it's no surprise that many athletes end up hooking up.

Micah Richards found himself in the Village while competing for the Team GB men's football team at the 2012 Olympics in London, along with other stars including Daniel Sturridge, Ryan Giggs, Aaron Ramsey and Craig Bellamy.

Though the former Manchester City star was unable to help Team Gb progress beyond the quarter-finals - they lost of penalties to South Korea - he has admitted that off the pitch he was "on fire."

Speaking on The Rest is Football podcast, Richards spoke about the sexual escapades of athletes in the Olympic village.

"It was the party of all parties. You got all the different athletes, all sorts of different specimens in there," the two-time Premier League winner said.

"Absolutely everything was there, we had McDonalds there, a Chinese, a big cafeteria with everything you want, it's free. It's what I imagine when you go to uni when you're in halls and sharing a room, I was with Daniel Sturridge.

"We were there for three nights, we went training, come back to the village, them three nights we were up to 4am.

"You have different campuses, Team GB in one block, Brazil, France, all these countries, and there's a massive big room full of condoms!

"It was like what, obviously promoting safe sex, and honest to god, I was on fire. I was on absolute fire, honestly. I was a little slimmer, a bit more ripped, bit more lean, it was summer time, walking around with my top off.

"There was multiple gold medals. one of the best times of my life, it was incredible."

Alan Shearer joked in response: "No wonder you lot got beat on penalties, you were absolutely knackered."

Athletes hooking up at Olympic villages is no secret, with London 2012 organisers providing 150,000 condoms for the 10,500 athletes that took part in the Games.

Back in 2021, Richards spoke to Jamie Carragher about life in the village on the Greatest Game podcast.

He said: "We were in the village, it was chaos. Just imagine the Olympic village with all these athletes, all this testosterone, and it's a free-for-all."

Carragher asked: "When you were in the village, did you get rid of that testosterone?" to which Richards replied: "Well, you wanted to!"
