Mauricio Pochettino 'agrees' next job after being targeted for England manager job

Mauricio Pochettino left Chelsea at the end of the 23/24 season.

Mauricio Pochettino is reportedly close to making a return to management after leaving Chelsea.

The Argentine endured a tough season at Stamford Bridge and decided to part ways with the club at the end of the 23/24 season.

Since then, Pochettino has been linked with multiple jobs including the England role after Gareth Southgate opted to step down on the back of the Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain.

However, it has now been claimed that Pochettino has agreed to become the manager of the United States men’s national team.

As reported by Prime Video LATAM journalist Ivan Kasanzew, who wrote on social media: “Sources indicate that Mauricio Pochettino has reached an agreement to become the new United States national team coach.”

The USMNT parted ways with Gregg Berhalter last month after the team’s exit from the 2024 Copa America.

USA failed to get out of the group stage after losing to Uruguay and Panama, which meant they only managed to finish in third place.

Shortly after Berhalter's departure, it was reported that the USA were targeting former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp as a possible replacement.

However, However, The Athletic report that the 57-year-old has rejected the chance to enter talks over a swift return to management, despite being the USMNT's top candidate.

They say that Klopp has reiterated his plans to take a break from football, and he will not be taking up the position as a result.

Meanwhile, Pochettino was replaced by former Leicester City boss Enzo Maresca at Chelsea.

Ahead of the new season, the Blues have again been extremely busy in the transfer window.

So far, they have brought in the likes of Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Filip Jorgensen, Omari Kellyman, Aaron Anselmino, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Pedro Neto and Tosin Adarabioyo.

Chelsea will begin their 24/25 Premier League campaign against champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
