McKennie caused a stir with his social media blunder.

Manchester United fans have begun to speculate after Weston McKennie dropped a clanger on social media.

After a squad audit completed by Man United's new minority owner Ineos - headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe - supporters are expecting a busy summer in the transfer window.

It remains to be seen which players will be pursued by club bosses, although one potential target put the cat among the pigeons with a bizarre blunder on social media.

American midfielder Weston McKennie joined Juventus in 2020, but his career looked to be spiralling when he struggled on loan at Leeds United in the second half of last season.

Despite his six-month Premier League nightmare, this season the 25-year-old has rediscovered his best form and has played a key role in Juventus' push to return to the Champions League.

However, on Friday afternoon McKennie's Facebook profile photo changed to an image of hime wearing a Man United shirt.

Around 20 minutes later the image was changed back to one of him wearing a Juventus kit, but not before United fans caught wind of the situation.

"Must be some sort of dare or bet loss," one fan commented on X, while another said: "Lol wtf! Hacked surely."

While many fans suggested that the USMNT star was hacked, others were more cynical about the situation.

"His agent told him link yourself to United and somehow you get offers," one fan suggested.

Others theorised that United could actually make a move for the midfielder, given that midfield improvements will be high on United's lists of priorities this summer.

"I wouldn't be surprised by [Erik] Ten Hag actually wanting to sign him. He's done worse," one fan commented, while another wrote: "Won't be a bad signing tbh."

A third fan argued: "Would be such a good signing too that’s the worse part. It would make too much sense."
