Ex-Sporting chief slams Ruben Amorim in furious rant over 'disastrous' Man Utd move

Ex-Sporting chief slams Ruben Amorim in furious rant over 'disastrous' Man Utd move

He believes it has tarnished his legacy.

A former Sporting Lisbon chief has slammed Ruben Amorim for how he has conducted himself following news that the Sporting manager is set to take over at Old Trafford.

News emerged on Monday evening that Manchester United would be willing to trigger Amorim's €10m release clause after the sacking of Erik ten Hag.

Amiron took charge of Sporting on Tuesday night despite the speculation on his future and even addressed the links to United in his post-match press conference.

"Nothing is decided yet... I don't know if it's the farewell game or not," he told reporters.

"I have nothing more to say, we are analysing the game and anything I say will only create more noise. There is nothing concrete..."

With it looking more and more likely that Amiron will be departing the Portuguese side, Jaime Marta Soares, the former chairman of Sporting's General Assembly, has slammed Amiron for his decision.

Soares claims the choice to leave the club in the middle of the season has tarnished his reputation and everything he portrayed himself has been a lie.

"[Ruben Amorim's] attitude and personality seemed like one thing, but that fell apart from one moment to the next. His love, passion, and dedication to Sporting were just fantasy situations," Soares told Radio Renascenca.

"He was the one who created an environment with an entire Sporting fanatic nation around him, who adored and respected him. He shouldn't have spat in the plate that gave him his soup."

Soares, admitted does appreciate what the 39-year-old had done for the club, but believes Sporting had a major part to play in his rise to the top and should be respected more."

"I'm a fan of Ruben Amorim, but there are things that shouldn't be allowed. It was at Sporting that he made his name," he continued.

"If he hadn't let himself get caught up in the dream of making millions, and since he was adored by Sporting fans, he should have thought about leaving through the big door and not this way. Sporting fans will certainly react."

Sporting's next match is on Friday as they face Estrela Amadora, and it's expected that Amiron will still be in the dugout but likely for the final time.
