Ruben Amorim wants to sign a former Manchester City defender when he takes the helm at Manchester United, it has been claimed.
Amorim was announced as the next United boss last week in the wake of Erik ten Hag’s sacking, with the Sporting manager to take charge at Old Trafford from Monday, November 11.
Since Amorim was confirmed as Ten Hag’s successor, United have been linked with several of Sporting’s players, including Swedish marksman Viktor Gyokeres.

However, Amorim has ruled out raiding his former side in the winter market and admitted Gyokeres would cost €100million (£83million).
With an eye on more attainable targets, however, reports in Italy claim that Amorim could be keen to sign Juventus skipper Danilo, whose contract expires in Turin at the end of the season.
According to the Mirror, the 33-year-old is seen as a quick fix to shore up United’s defence.

Danilo has worked with some of the most celebrated managers in the world, including Zinedine Zidane, Massimiliano Allegri and Pep Guardiola, with the Brazilian admitting that his relationship with the latter was not perfect.
Speaking to la Repubblica in 2021, Danilo said: “I’ve been lucky, they are different, but they are all winners. I have tried to learn from everyone. It was with Guardiola that I changed my way of seeing things, I didn’t play much also because of an injury.
“It’s true that it’s not easy to have a good relationship with him, he is never relaxed, he thinks about football all the time. I think at home, in the evening, he puts his wife on the couch as if she were a player on the pitch.

“From Allegri, I try to learn something that I had not yet been taught, he wants something totally different and I am sure I will become stronger.”
