United are allegedly preparing a fresh a bid for the striker in the coming days, but are unwilling to pay more than £60million, as they wrestle with Financial Fair Play restrictions.
However, the 20-year-old's move to Old Trafford has now been thrown into jeopardy following the news that Atalanta teammate Jeremie Boga is on the verge of signing for Nice.

"€18m [£15m] deal with add-ons was agreed yesterday and now set to be sealed."
As a result, the Serie A side may be less resistant to selling Hojliund, or could play hard ball over his signature, having already lost Boga this summer.
Speaking on United pre-season tour of the United States, Ten Hag lifted the lid on his search for a striker, revealing that progress had been made.
“We make progress, yeah, but we know how it works and when we have him, we will tell you directly,” the Dutchman said, (quotes via the Telegraph).

“The only thing I can say is we do everything that’s in our power to get it done. If it was up to me, as soon as possible, because we have to integrate him.
“In an ideal situation, he would already be here but you do not always get ideal situations and you have to deal with the situation.”
