New reports suggest that iconic defender Raphael Varane is preparing to terminate his contract with new club Como and hang up the boots for good.
Following a 14-year career that saw him win four Champions League titles and three La Liga titles with Real Madrid, the EFL and FA Cups with Manchester United and the 2018 World Cup with France, Varane is ready to retire.
The 31-year-old joined newly-promoted Serie A side Como over the summer after leaving United as a free agent, agreeing a two year deal.

But, after suffering a serious knee injury just 20 minutes into his debut, he has officially announced his retirement from football as he explores a new career.
“In my career I have taken on many challenges, rose to occasion after occasion, almost all of it was supposed to be impossible. Reflecting on these moments, it is with immense pride and a feeling of fulfilment that I am announcing my retirement from the game that we all love,” he said on Como’s official X account.
“I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game. It takes a big dose of courage to listen to your heart and your instinct. I have fallen and risen a thousand times, and this time, it’s the moment to stop and hang my boots up with my final game winning a trophy at Wembley.
