Paul Scholes may have worked out what three Man Utd players were hiding speaking about after Palace defeat

Paul Scholes may have worked out what three Manchester United players were discussing on the pitch after their humiliating defeat to Crystal Palace.

United were thrashed 4-0 by Palace on Monday night with Michael Olise (2), Jean-Philippe Mateta and Tyrick Mitchell getting the goals for the home side at Selhurst Park.

Erik ten Hag's side have now suffered 13 defeats in the Premier League this season, their most in a league campaign since 1989/90, and find themselves eighth in the table.

After the match, Antony, Mason Mount and Andre Onana were seen discussing the result as they walked off the pitch.

All three players were seen covering their mouths with their hands to prevent their chat being seen by TV cameras.

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher slammed the trio for their behaviour after the full-time whistle.

"Just get off the pitch," Carragher said on Monday Night Football.

"Talking, whispering behind your hand - you've just been absolutely awful. They are probably talking about one of the players - somebody else, the set-up or the manager. Just shut up and get in.

"You've been beaten 4-0. Whispering, talking about other players. Honestly, embarrassing."

Former United midfielder Paul Scholes has a theory on what the three players could have been discussing after spotting a gesture from Antony during the talks.

"He has three fingers up there, I don't know what that means. He is saying something to Mason Mount he is obviously not happy with. Mason Mount seems the quietest out of the three of them," Scholes told Optus Sports.

"What's that going to do, I didn't see any of them communicating on the football pitch. That doesn't look good. I don't think that's good for the manager.

"People are obviously talking and saying things he [Antony] doesn't agree with. When he's putting those three fingers up, maybe he's saying we should be having three in midfield, why don't we have three there?

"I don't know, we have no idea because we can't lip read. But there is obviously a problem there and they obviously disagree with something the manager is doing."

United next face Premier League leaders Arsenal on Sunday in a must-win match for both sides.
