Wayne Rooney has been tipped to return to management just weeks after he was relieved of his duties as head coach of Plymouth Argyle.
Rooney, 39, parted company with Plymouth on December 31 after managing the side to just four wins, six draws and 13 defeats in 23 Championship games, leaving them at the foot of the division.
He previously managed MLS side DC United, Derby County and Birmingham City but has arguably been unable to bring success to any of the clubs mentioned.
However, Rooney endeared himself to the fans of Plymouth, releasing a statement to show his “thanks” to the ‘Green Army’ explaining that he has made “memories” that he will “share forever”.

He added that the club would “always hold a special place” in his heart.
But arguably the club closest to Rooney’s heart is the one that he is linked with currently. And no, it’s not Manchester United if you thought Ruben Amorim was already under pressure.
According to talkSPORT, the Liverpool-born former England international has been linked with a sensational return to football with his boyhood club Everton.
Of course, Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties just hours before the Toffees’ 2-0 FA Cup third-round win against Peterborough on Thursday, leaving youth coach and former player Leighton Baines and current first-team defender Seamus Coleman to manage the team.

It is unclear if Rooney would be willing to return to management so soon after leaving Plymouth.
Former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes is the heavy favourite to rejoin the Merseyside outfit, with Sky Sports reporting that Moyes, 61, is meeting with "Everton officials on Friday (today) to agree a deal to return to the club".
But Rooney has previously explained how he believes he “will be a Premier League manager” when speaking at a press conference while Derby boss in January 2022.

"Everton approached my agent and asked me to interview for the vacant job, which I turned down,” Rooney said.
"I believe that I will be a Premier League manager and I believe I'm ready for that 100 per cent, and if that is with Everton one day in the future that'd be absolutely great.”
