Manchester United fans were stunned by what goalkeeper Altay Bayindir did during their 4-3 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat against Tottenham on Thursday evening.
The Turkey international started the match at the Tottenham Stadium with usual first-choice goalkeeper Andre Onana on the bench.
Spurs got off to a flying start on 15 minutes, which left Bayindir red-faced after he parried a long-range effort straight into Dominic Solanke’s path, who finished with aplomb.
Then, one minute into the second half, Lisandro Martinez cleared straight towards Dejan Kulusevski, who doubled Spurs’ lead.

On 56 minutes, Solanke registered his second and Tottenham’s third of the night, but United rallied with substitute Joshua Zirkzee pulling one back on 63 minutes.
Just seven minutes later, Amad chased down Fraser Forster, who mistimed his clearance, allowing the Ivorian to score the Red Devils’ second goal.
But on 88 minutes, Spurs’ captain Son Heung-min scored directly from a corner, which Bayindir should’ve dealt with better.

Fans spotted the odd thing he did in the aftermath of the goal.
The Turkish ‘keeper appeared to gesture to the screen for a review.
However, VAR is not used in the competition until the semi-final stage with the rules decided by the EFL.
Last season, VAR was not used until the final between Liverpool and Chelsea. This was because Championship outfit Middlesbrough - who made the last four - did not have the facilities installed at their Riverside Stadium.

Fans on social media were quick to acknowledge that the technology is not used at the quarter-final stage of the cup.
One said: “Someone needs to tell Bayindir there's no VAR.”
Another added: “Altay Bayındır is furious and looks to be asking for VAR, which isn't being used tonight."
A third commented: "That is not Bayindir fault, blatant cheating from Bergvall not having VAR in a big big QF of a cup is a complete joke!!"

While a fourth explained: "That is a foul and that is why we should have VAR."
A fifth exclaimed: "That’s a foul on Bayindir all day!"
In fairness to Bayindir, there is an argument that Lucas Bergvall may have impeded him as he tried to punch the incoming corner. But the goal stood and Spurs progressed to the semi-final.
