Ruben Amorim reportedly caused damage to a television screen after Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton last Sunday – and now an expert has revealed exactly what provoked his emotional reaction.
Amorim, 39, dubbed his United side as “maybe the worst” in the 147-year history of the football club following the defeat at Old Trafford last weekend.
"In [the past] 10 games in Premier League, we won two," said Amorim. "Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me.
"We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.

"We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you [media] want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines."
Sources close to The Athletic explained how a TV had been used to discuss tactics ahead of the game but was on the receiving end of an angry reaction from a furious Amorim.
The Athletic’s Manchester United correspondent Laurie Whitwell revealed what he knows about the situation that happened in the dressing room when speaking on the Stretford Paddock on Wednesday.

“As far as our information… Ruben Amorim damaged that [the TV] in what we think was a pretty furious critique of his team after the Brighton game,” said Whitwell.
“It’s notable, a pretty emotional reaction I think, possibly a calculated one to shock the players," he added.
“He’s talked about wanting to jolt people at the club.”
Whitwell then explained how he feels Amorim’s reaction was notable because “usually after games he will be silent” and consult with his team of coaches then he will “speak to the players the day after” at United’s Carrington training ground.

“The performance against Brighton changed things and he felt the need to be very vocal with his reaction,” Whitwell explained.
United are back in action on Thursday when they will play host to Rangers in the Europa League at Old Trafford.
Of course, Amorim’s supposed reaction has been compared to that of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign at the club. Ferguson, 83, was known for his no-nonsense approach to discussing issues he had with players in the dressing room as David Beckham found out when the Scot kicked a boot after United's FA Cup tie against Arsenal in 2003. The stray boot hit Beckham, 49, who sported a cut above his left eye as a result.
