Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's most controversial Man Utd signing could play key role in club completing bombshell transfer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's most controversial Man Utd signing could play key role in club completing bombshell transfer

The former Manchester United boss left the club in November 2021, but one of his signings could prove vital in a potential transfer.

One of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s most controversial signings from his time at Manchester United could help the club sign a highly-rated striker.

Solskjaer, 51, will forever hold a special place in the hearts of Manchester United fans, having scored 126 goals in 366 appearances for the Red Devils.

And his Champions League-winning goal in the dying embers of the final against Bayern Munich in the Camp Nou back in 1999 will live long in the memories of United supports.

However, he has since moved into management first with Cardiff City and Molde before taking over initially as caretaker manager of United in December 2018.

He was scheduled to return to Molde in May 2019, but he impressed and led the side to five wins in his first five games, eventually landing the job on a full-time basis, penning a three-year contract in March 2019.

But things did not go as planned, and he left in November 2021.

Despite reaching the 2021 Europa League final, his time as manager of United was nothing special, but one of the signings he made could yet have a huge impact on the club.

Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bisakka and Cristiano Ronaldo all signed for the club during Solskjaer's tenure, but it is another former player who could hold the key to a transfer.

United have been linked with Napoli forward (on loan at Galatasaray) Victor Osimhen.

United In Focus reports that the clubs could be interested in a ‘swap deal’ for Marcus Rashford and Osimhen, 26.

The forward has already voiced how it is his “dream” to play in the Premier League, and a potential move could be heavily influenced by his Nigerian compatriot Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo, 35, scored five times during 23 appearances for United between 2020 and 2021 after arriving on loan from Shanghai Shenhua.

He has previously spoken about Osimhen and explained how he would "tell him to go to Manchester United" when speaking to Sky Sports in 2023.

"I think he will fit in Manchester United so well," said Ighalo.

"If he asked for my opinion and what should he do, I would advise him to join Man United because, for me, they are the biggest club."
