Amad has broken his silence on Manchester United's 2-0 defeat against Newcastle with a post on social media.

On Monday, Ruben Amorim’s side put in another poor performance, which saw them stay in 14th place in the league, just seven points off Ipswich Town in the relegation zone.

Joshua Zirkzee captured the headlines after he was withdrawn by Amorim and replaced by Kobbie Mainoo on 32 minutes.

Zirkzee, 23, swiftly put on a United coat before heading towards the tunnel after he was sarcastically cheered off by those gathered inside Old Trafford.

But he returned to the dugout and joined the United squad shortly after. A source inside the tunnel even explained how the player had “tears in his eyes” before returning to the bench.

After the game, Amorim, 39, explained how the decision was “tough” but insisted the team were “suffering” before Mainoo, 19, was introduced to the side.

Since then, fans, former players and pundits have all had their say on the events that unfolded at Old Trafford, but Amad has become the first United player to break their silence with a message posted to his X account on Tuesday.

At 12:07 pm on December 31, he posted a black and white photo of himself with his head in his hands, accompanied by the caption: “A very difficult year, apologizing is not enough... but you have supported us and continued to do so throughout all this time... thank you…”

Amad, 22, has arguably been one of the shining lights in United’s squad since Amorim took charge of the team in November.

The Ivorian has scored twice and provided six assists this season, with his best performance coming in the 2-1 win over Manchester City in the Manchester derby on December 15.

The winger won an 88th-minute penalty before Bruno Fernandes finished calmly from the spot.

Then, the former Atalanta man scored the winner in the 90th minute to hand United a historic victory.

This summer, he is out of contract but according to The Telegraph the club are keen to trigger a 12-month extension. While ESPN reports that the club and player are in "advanced negotiations" regarding a new deal.
