A shock club has joined the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo.
Mainoo, 19, started Sunday’s FA Cup third-round penalty shoot-out victory against Arsenal at the Emirates.
But last week, the Mail confirmed that Chelsea were “ready to make a move” for the player as he “cannot agree terms” with United over a new contract.
His current deal is set to run until the summer of 2027, but negotiations have been hampered by the tight budget the Red Devils operate within.

The report also suggested that Mainoo is “concerned” with the direction the club are heading in, with United now over a decade without winning a Premier League title.
Of course, most United fans will be hoping to keep hold of the youngster.
But the Mirror reported that an offer of £70m or above could be accepted.
Another factor which could have a bearing on a potential move, is the fact a sale of Mainoo, or any other academy graduate, would represent ‘pure profit’ from a PSR standpoint.

Mainoo, who reportedly earns £20,000 per week, is one of the senior squad’s lowest earners, with the likes of Mason Mount (£250,000 per week), Marcus Rashford (£300,000 per week) and Casemiro (£350,000) earning over ten times more than the 19-year-old weekly, according to Capology.
Now, a report from The Sun claims that German giants Bayern Munich are “set to join the race” to sign Mainoo.
The Bavarians are thought to be long-term admirers of the young midfielder and are “planning to make a move” if he were to become available.

Of course, if he were to join the Bundesliga side, he would no doubt be welcomed by his England teammate Harry Kane, who is enjoying life in Munich having scored 65 goals in just 66 appearances since arriving from Spurs in the summer of 2023.
And a deal could make sense when you consider that one of Vincent Kompany’s first-choice midfielders Joshua Kimmich is out of contract in the summer and has been linked with a move away from the club.
United boss Ruben Amorim spoke about Mainoo’s situation ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup tie.
"Our idea is always to keep the best players and the players we build for this club," said Amorim.

"But we know the position the club is in at the moment. We will see."
