Manchester United flop could have contract TERMINATED at new club after just one month

Manchester United flop could have contract TERMINATED at new club after just one month

The ex-Manchester United winger did not have a successful time at Old Trafford but has since played for some top clubs.

A former Manchester United player could see his contract terminated after just one month with his new club.

United have started the season in poor fashion. The Reds Devils are currently five games without a win following their latest poor performance in a 0-0 draw against Aston Villa.

Despite a summer spend of £180m, question marks remain over Erik ten Hag’s position as manager. Several of the recruits have failed to impress so far.

Poor transfer dealings have been a theme at Old Trafford since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

One of the signings in the following years initially excited United fans but followed a similar downward trajectory to most of United’s big-money signings over the last 11 years.

Memphis Depay joined United in 2015 during Louis van Gaal’s reign as manager but failed to live up to the heights expected of him.

He left United in 2017 but has featured for several notable clubs since.

Depay has played for Lyon, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid in recent years but somewhat surprisingly joined Brazilian side Corinthians in September.

However, just one month into his stint in Brazil, things have not worked out as he may have liked. Corinthians are on the verge of terminating Depay’s contract, according to journalist Paulo Vinícius Coelho of Finances of Sport magazine [via Mundo Deportivo]

The report suggests the player’s salary is largely being paid by a sponsor, Esportes da Sorte - a company “on the verge of collapse,” according to the Brazilian outlet.

Depay has featured three times for his new club. But he is yet to find the net.

His obscure transfer raised a few eyebrows, but Depay cited the league’s potential as a driving force behind his move.

“On the other side of the world, they don’t know all this (in Brazil), they just follow European clubs. It is time that they see. Brazilians have something special, I think the league will shine to the other side of the world. It is time to show its potential, I think it will happen in the next few years,” Depay said.

“It is a decision that is moved by a lot of force behind it. It goes beyond my understanding. I cannot express how I feel now,” he added when asked about his reasons for moving to Brazil.
