Man Utd fans left stunned at Ruben Amorim's first starting XI as two stars set for shock position changes

Amorim has named his first Man Utd XI.

Manchester United fans have been left shocked at Ruben Amorim's first starting XI as manager.

United take on Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Sunday afternoon.

Amorim was expected to have opted for a 3-4-3 system in his first game in charge, having had the entire week on the training field.

That appears to be the case for the Ipswich clash - but the starting XI he has picked contains a number of surprises.

Amad Diallo has seemingly been selected to play at right wing-back, with Diogo Dalot on the other side.

Noussair Mazraoui has also been picked, but appears likely to play as part of a back three alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Jonny Evans.

Bruno Fernandes, meanwhile, is set to line up on the right of attack, with Marcus Rashford chosen over Rasmus Hojlund as the main striker.

While some fans have suggested that the starting XI could in fact play as a back four, that would be a surprise in itself given Amorim stuck with a three-defender system while Sporting Lisbon manager.

Speaking in his first interview as United manager, the Portuguese stated that improving the 'character' of the squad would be his first priority over a specific tactical style.

He said: "I think it's important because a lot of people now talk about the 3-4-3 and the 4-3-3 and all that stuff.

"But when I think as a player or as a team-mate of Manchester United, it is not a system or formation, it's like the character of the players, the way they see the club.

"So we have to focus on that before the everything of how we play, how we press. The most important thing for me at this moment is to create the principles, the identity and the character that we had in the past."
