The reason why Man United's friendly with Rangers was delayed

The reason why Man United's friendly with Rangers was delayed

Man United's friendly with Rangers in Edinburgh started later than scheduled.

Manchester United's friendly with Rangers was delayed this afternoon, resulting in a slightly later kick-off time.

Erik ten Hag's side are taking part in their second pre-season friendly, following on from a defeat to Norwegian side Rosenborg last time out.

As they did last year when they played Lyon, United travelled to Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium for a clash with Scottish giants Rangers.

It was pencilled in for a 4pm but kick-off ended up taking place fifteen minutes later.

According to the Manchester Evening News, the decision was made due to large queues outside the ground.

Congestion in the roads around the ground also meant many seats inside the ground were empty ahead of the scheduled kick-off time, with a host of fans taking to social media to explain the situation.

It was then ruled that the slight adjourn would allow everyone to get in safely.

United's official X account wrote: "Due to queues around the ground for entry, kick-off at Murrayfield has been delayed until 16:15 BST.

"Thank you to fans from both sides for your magnificent support."

The announcement in the stadium was met by boos but the action did get under way shortly after

New United signing Leny Yoro was handed his first start after signing from Lille in a £52 million switch on Thursday.

The 18-year-old made a huge impression early on when he produced a sensational last-ditch tackle to thwart Cyriel Dessers when he was played in behind.

Amad Diallo opened the scoring for United, cutting in from the right and finding the far corner with his trusty left foot in the 39th minute.

United will spend the bulk of the pre-season preparations in the United States, with games against Arsenal, Real Betis and Liverpool before the Community Shield against rivals City at Wembley on 10 August.
