A man who assaulted Manchester United supporter Frank Ilett on a concourse at Old Trafford has been identified and punished.

Ilett, who is originally from Oxford but now lives in Spain, has become a viral sensation after he promised on October 5, 2024, that he would only cut his hair when United recorded five wins on the trot.

The 29-year-old continues to attract a significant amount of attention for his efforts. "It's been an absolutely crazy journey," he told the BBC. "I never expected my hair, or my following, to be as big as it has become."

As well as his ever-growing presence online, Ilett turned up at Old Trafford last month as United recorded a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chelsea.

It was a massive result for United and the much-loved Ilett, but his afternoon was marred by an incident involving another match-goer, who could be seen grabbing his hair on the concourse before pulling it aggressively.

After several uncomfortable seconds, the supporter eventually let go before unleashing a verbal tirade. "F*** off, f*** off, I'll do what I f****** want," he said. "Listen, he's not a United f****** fan, so f*** off, f*** off."

After the full-time whistle, Ilett spoke about the incident.

"Yeah, it was a bit weird to be honest," he told The Sun. "I thought he was just joking to start with, but then he started yanking my hair and calling me an 'attention-seeking c***'.

"The whole day was full of hundreds of positive interactions yesterday and 99 per cent of all of the reactions to this challenge has been nice. But just a few people can ruin it."

He continued: "My intention with this challenge was never to highlight Man United's flaws. It was always and always will be to spread humour and positivity to United fans in a difficult time.

"I never expected it to go on for so long, but I'm hopeful we can go on a good run soon and I, more than most, want these wins to come as soon as possible."

Ilett added: "I will always try to focus on the positives and hope that this was just a one off."

Several weeks on from the incident and Manchester United have made a statement of intent. As per the Daily Mail, the man who attacked Ilett has been handed an indefinite ban from Old Trafford.

The news comes after Diogo Dalot sent a message to Ilett after United secured back-to-back league wins for the first since Ruben Amorim's appointment – a 2-1 victory over Liverpool.

"Let' see... We hope that we can give him that haircut," he told DAZN.

"But we have to go game by game. Obviously, we know this is a very difficult league, we have tough games and, of course, we have to go after that consistency that we have lacked because we have already shown in the past that we can compete against any team in the world."

Dalot added: "We get to the big games, we get to have good performances. Now it's trying to make it happen every game. We now have the next game at home and that's what's important to us."
