Paul Scholes claims 'nasty' Chelsea player tried to 'rip my mouth open' during clash with Man Utd

Paul Scholes claims 'nasty' Chelsea player tried to 'rip my mouth open' during clash with Man Utd

The ex-Man Utd man, alongside Nicky Butt, was discussing a former rival and recalled several on-pitch battles.

Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has branded a former Chelsea player as 'nasty' claiming he did the 'weirdest things ever'.

Both Scholes and Butt were combative but talented midfielders for United during their prime and were partners in winning several Premier League titles in the 1990's.

The pair discussed one ex-professional who was the worst of them all. Scholes retired in 2013, and despite a failed stint as manager of Oldham Athletic, is regularly heard on various shows giving his opinion on all things football related.

He has critiqued Manchester United’s summer signings lately and looks to be carving out a career for himself in the media.

Scholes told Butt on the Football’s Greatest podcast. “Dennis Wise was horrible, weren’t he? He did some of the weirdest things ever.

“I remember rolling on the floor with him during a game – not fighting or anything – and he’s got his finger in my mouth.

“He’s trying to like rip my mouth open. He was a nasty piece of work.”

Earlier in the episode, Butt gave his thoughts on the former Wimbledon midfielder saying: “He [Dennis Wise] was horrible with me. He got me sent off. He pinched me in the balls and got away with it.

“He got away with murder. He two-footed me in the head and when we were on the floor he’s grabbed my balls. I should’ve booted him or punched him because I got sent off anyway. I only gave him a little knee.

“He was a wind-up merchant but when you meet him outside of football, he’s actually a decent bloke.

“He worked at Newcastle while I was there and he’s a good bloke to be fair, but on the pitch he was nasty.”

It is fair to say, the Dennis Wise-type of midfielder have been eradicated from the modern game. The strict refereeing and further measures introduced by VAR would probably see Wise being sent off on a weekly basis.

Wise was known for his intense style but earned 21 caps for England between 1991 and 2000 proving he was much more than just a ‘midfield destroyer’ scoring over 50 goals during his time at Stamford Bridge.

After he finished playing, Wise tried his hand at management; first with Millwall before spells at Swindon Town and Leeds United. He has not managed since 2008.
