What Marcus Rashford did while Man Utd lost to Brighton speaks volumes as exile under Ruben Amorim continues

What Marcus Rashford did while Man Utd lost to Brighton speaks volumes as exile under Ruben Amorim continues

He hasn't played for United since being left out of the Manchester derby on December 19.

Marcus Rashford's actions while his Manchester United teammates were preparing to face Brighton on Sunday have emerged in a new report.

The 27-year-old forward, who has scored seven goals in 24 games this season, has not featured for United since December 15, when he was dropped for their Premier League clash against Manchester City.

Speaking about his decision to drop Rashford for the City game, a defiant Ruben Amorim emphasised the importance of maintaining high standards at "one of the biggest clubs in the world".

He added: "This kind of club needs big talent and he's a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus."

A few days later, Rashford said he was "ready for a new challenge" and rumours have lingered ever since, with several clubs reportedly expressing an interest, including Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona.

Rashford was once again left out of United's matchday squad for their Premier League clash against Brighton.

And after the full-time whistle, Amorim was asked if he would consider recalling Rashford after missing the last nine games.

"It is his choice [not to play]. I don’t want to focus on this bad moment because in the games we lost, Rashford is not here. I don't want to put this moment on Rashford. Rashford is out of this moment because he is not playing," he said.

"No matter what, I am not going to put out a player I don’t believe is the best for the team."

Amid rumours surrounding his future at Old Trafford, those close to Rashford stress he wants to play for his boyhood club and is ready to give everything if he is picked again.

In fact, The Telegraph claim Rashford has taken part in extra training sessions away from United to ensure he is 'as ready as possible' should Amorim decided to recall him in the not-so-distant future.

And he is understood to have trained at Carrington on Sunday as his teammates prepared to face Brighton.

United will take on Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday. Rashford, meanwhile, is fit and available to play. Thoughts on the current situation around Rashford?
