FA may charge Man Utd man over 'heated half-time rant' at officials during Brentford clash

FA may charge Man Utd man over 'heated half-time rant' at officials during Brentford clash

Manchester United could be hit with an FA charge following the comeback win over Brentford.

Manchester United coach Darren Fletcher could have an FA charge on the way for what he did at half-time of the win over Brentford.

United came from behind to end a five-game winless run, with Rasmus Hojlund scoring the winner after Alejandro Garnacho cancelled out Ethan Pinnock's opener.

Brentford went 1-0 up from a corner in first-half stoppage time but United players and coaches were absolutely furious.

Matthijs de Ligt was left with blood gushing from his head after being caught with a knee by Brentford attacker Kevin Schade.

He had to receive treatment on three separate occasions and was forced to wait on the side of the pitch for the corner where Brentford went 1-0 up while United had 10 men.

Although protocols surrounding head injuries had to be followed, Jonny Evans was booked for dissent and both Erik ten Hag and Ruud van Nistelrooy were cautioned for the way in which they protested to fourth official Gavin Ward on the touchline.

Yet the complaints did not stop and at half-time, United coach Fletcher is said to have let rip too.

According to The Mirror, footage showed Fletcher remonstrating with fourth official Ward as he walked into the tunnel with man in the middle Barrott and his assistants.

It's claimed he produced an expletive-filled rant and could be charged if it is mentioned in Barrott's match report from the game.

Fletcher's 17-year-old son Jack was on the bench for United for the first time on Saturday after making an impression at youth level.

Ten Hag was happy with the way United responded to get the win but still struggled to get his head around De Ligt having to come off.

“It was dry blood so he was already treated for the injury," he explained afterwards.

"I didn’t understand why he was sent off. I went over to Matthijs and he said ‘it is dry blood and I have to come off, I don’t know why.’

"A huge moment because Brentford is very good at corners and you miss one of your best headers.

“It is hypothetical, we will never know but definitely we were mad and angry at half-time."
