Manchester United have 'made contact' with the entourage of arguably Europe's most in-demand player as he looks set to become a free agent this summer.
It looks like Ruben Amorim will be limited when it comes to strengthening his United squad.
There is only a 'modest' budget for the new United manager to play with in January, according to The Guardian, as they prepare to adhere with profitability and sustainability rules.

A handful of Sporting Lisbon players continue to be linked with a move to Old Trafford, including the in-form Viktor Gyokeres, who is being chased by several of Europe's top clubs.
But they will likely come at a hefty cost. With that in mind, United have 'made contact' with the entourage of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as they look to make further reinforcements at the back.
United signed centre-backs Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt in the summer but with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof coming to the end of their current deals, it appears Tah has been earmarked as a potential addition.

In fact, Spanish publication Fichajes claim United have identified Tah as 'a solution to their respective defensive needs' and recently made contact over a move.
The 28-year-old centre-back, who was recently hailed by Arne Slot as "the best defender in Germany", is expected to leave reigning Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen at the end of the 2024/25 season.
He played a crucial part of the Leverkusen side that lost just one match in all competitions during the 2023/24 campaign en route to a German domestic treble under Xabi Alonso.
But according to the above report, his agent has already confirmed that the defender will leave when his contract expires next summer.

Germany international Tah was pursued by Bayern Munich in the summer window. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been linked in recent weeks.
Speaking to Süddeutsche Zeitung in September, Tah opened up on his future plans.
“I’m not going to sign a new deal at Bayer Leverkusen," he said. "My decision is made. I will give my best until the end here and then we will see about my future club. But my decision is to go and try a different experience.”
