Robert Lewandowski has spoken out about rumours that Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee is considering a move away from the club.

Zirkzee joined United from Bologna in the summer for a fee of £34 million, penning a five year contract, but so far has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford.

Earlier this week, rumours began to circulate that the Dutchman was unhappy with his current situation at United was could be set to leave the club in a surprise return to the Serie A.

And now, Zirkzee's former teammate Lewandowski has made his feelings about the young striker known and addressed the rumours of his United exit.

The Barcelona striker appeared on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast and spoke with the ex-Untied legend about his Bayern Munich teammate's struggles at the Premier League club, urging fans to reserve their judgement and give him more time.

“He plays amazing with the back to the goal. He can hold the ball, he can play with the one touches or two touches and bring the wingers to behind his back,” Lewandowski said.

“He has also good finishing in the box because he’s big, you know, he’s young, but he’s big and I think he can keep the ball, hold the ball very, very strong.

"And of course, he needs a little bit of time, it’s normal if you join to this kind of club, big club, with huge expectations and he scored a lot of goals in Serie A."

Lewandowski also noted that of all of the times to come to join United, last summer was a particular bad moment as the Red Devils have struggled to find form this season, leaving them 13th in the Premier League table.

“So for him that was like the first season that he was involved, you know, as a typical striker. But you know, that now the time in Manchester is not so brilliant.

“I’m not laughing, but it’s true, you know, because this is the big team. But he’s the striker, he can really help teammates and the team if you know how to use him.

"Also he can score the goals. I think he’s not typical goal scoring striker, he’s also the player who can help the teammates to create the space for them.”
