Manchester United's deal to sign Patrick Dorgu could open the door for Liverpool to have a clear path at Arne Slot's 'dream signing'.
According to David Ornstein and The Athletic, United opened talks with Serie A side Lecce over the signing of the 20-year-old left wing-back.
Dorgu is rated as one of the best young prospects in world football, and was tracked by a number of teams during the 2024 summer transfer window.

Ornstein's report claims that 'dialogue is progressing' between the two clubs, with Amorim keen to recruit players who can better suit his tactical system.
Dorgu is a traditional left-wing-back but has played on the right-hand side, which would make him an extremely valuable asset for United.
The Danish youngster has also demonstrated his credentials in the attacking third this season, scoring three goals in 20 Serie A appearances to date.

However, if United do sign Dorgu it would likely end their pursuit of Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez which would open the door for Liverpool.
According to Fabrizio Romano via Give Me Sport, both Liverpool and United are 'closely monitoring' the Hungarian's progress.
Kerkez has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League this season, with two goals and three assists in 23 so far this season, including a beauty against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The report claims Liverpool want to sign Kerkez specifically for Slot, as they believe his profile would excel under the Dutchman at Anfield.

Speaking back in November ahead of Bournemouth's clash with Man City, Andoni Iraola played down speculation over the 21-year-old's future.
“I don’t know how much truth there is in these rumours," he said.

“Milos has been solid this season, he is more mature and he is seeing the benefits of having the experience of going through a past season.
“I think it is a new level for him. We have to consider he is still very, very young, he has to continue developing like this and also add more things.
“I hope he continues along the same line," he added.
