But he was relieved of his duties at Old Trafford in November 2021 following a string of bad results in the 2021/22 campaign, culminating in a bruising 4-1 defeat at Watford.
In the latest episode of Stick to Football - brought to you by Sky Bet - the Norwegian bemoaned the club's lack of backing in the transfer window, revealing three huge signings he failed to pull off during his time at the club.

"There was a point.. I remember texting you: 'You need to spend their f**king money'," he told the legendary forward on The Overlap.
"It got to the point where I thought you weren't getting supported and I've never texted anybody in football about that type of thing," he added.
"But I've obviously known you... sat next to you in the dressing room, I just thought 'you need to spend their f**king money quickly because you need some players'."

Solskjaer replied: "We needed players."
Roy Keane added: "Spend it wisely."
Neville hit back: "Not as in... frivolously. He needed to bring players in. It was obvious."
Despite Neville's claim, Man United splashed the cash to acquire the likes of Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes and Aaron Wan-Bissaka in big-money transfers.

But Neville and Solskjaer believe they needed more additions to the Man United squad, which wasn't sanctioned by the Glazer family.
