Erik ten Hag issues telling four-word response when asked if Jadon Sancho will stay at Man Utd

Erik ten Hag issues telling four-word response when asked if Jadon Sancho will stay at Man Utd

Jadon Sancho has patched things up with Erik ten Hag but has still been heavily linked with a move away from Manchester United

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag offered a brief response when asked if Jadon Sancho is remaining with the club.

Sancho returned to United in the summer following a loan spell back with Borussia Dortmund, who he helped reach the Champions League final.

The England international had been frozen out at United following a dispute with Ten Hag, who told him to apologise.

He ended up being banished to the Under 18's side before the mid-season switch to Dortmund.

Yet Sancho patched things up with Ten Hag and was allowed to return for pre-season, missing a crucial penalty in the Community Shield shoot-out defeat to Manchester City.

He has been heavily linked with both Juventus and Chelsea, who have reportedly submitted an offer for the 24-year-old.

In his press conference on Friday, Ten Hag was asked if Sancho will be staying put and simply replied: "As I know, yeah."

So far seven players have left United on permanent transfers, with Scott McTominay set to become the eighth once his switch to Napoli is confirmed.

And although he's not likely to be first choice, Ten Hag believes Sancho's presence will be useful over the course of a demanding season.

Ten Hag added: "He is a player in our squad and we are happy with him. We need a good squad, we need depth in the squad, we have to play many games until January, the new format of Europe.

"After the break we will play every third day so we absolutely need options."

Sancho's name was initially mentioned as part of a mooted swap deal for Chelsea star Raheem Sterling, who is surplus to requirements under new boss Enzo Maresca.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Sancho has given the "total green light" on returning to London with Chelsea and the Blues and United remain in conversation as the closing of the transfer window approaches.

He has played 83 times for United, scoring 12 goals.
