Paul Scholes gave a brutal assessment of Andre Onana’s first-half performance against Lyon in the Europa League.
Onana, 29, was at fault for the opening goal of the evening when he failed to deal with an in-swinging free-kick from Thiago Almada.
And if there was one United player who didn’t want to make an error at the Groupama Stadium it was Onana.

On Wednesday, former United midfielder and current Lyon Nemanja Matic called the Cameroonian one of United’s worst-ever goalkeepers during a press conference, after Onana claimed United were “way better” than their French opposition.
“I respect everyone but to say that then you need to get the answer,” said Matic.
“If you are one of the worst goalkeepers in Man United’s history you need to take care what you are talking.”

“If David de Gea or Peter Schmeichel or [Edwin] van der Sar said that then I will question myself but if you are one of the statistically worst goalkeepers in Man United’s modern history then he needs to show that before he says, so we will see,” he added.
Onana responded to the Serbian’s comments by posting a statement to his Instagram account.

“I would never be disrespectful to another club,” Onana wrote. “We know that tomorrow will be a difficult game against a strong opponent. We focus on preparing a performance to make our fans proud. At least I’ve lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can’t say the same.”
Unfortunately for Onana, his mistake will be talked about during and in the aftermath of the Europa League fixture with former United midfielder Scholes giving his thoughts when speaking on TNT Sports at half-time.
“He’s probably wishing he kept his mouth shut before the game I would have thought,” Scholes said. “The keeper I’m not sure what he’s trying to do to be honest. It’s an awful mistake from him.”
The former England man also gave his thoughts on the feud between Matic and Onana ahead of the game.

"I don't think it was something I would have done, try and provoke a team by saying you are better than them," Scholes explained.
"Matic overreacted slightly, it was a bit aggressive, but I don't mind a bit of needle."
