Alejandro Garnacho breaks silence for the first time since being dropped by Ruben Amorim at Man United following Puskas win

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho has won the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award.

Alejandro Garnacho has spoken for the first time since being dropped by Ruben Amorim for the Manchester derby.

On Sunday afternoon, Manchester United recorded a dramatic 2-1 win over Manchester City thanks to late goals by Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo.

However, the match was dominated by Ruben Amorim's decision to omit Garnacho and Marcus Rashford from the matchday squad.

On Tuesday night, Garnacho claimed the 2024 FIFA Puskas Award for his acrobatic effort against Everton.

The announcement made by Juevntus and Italy legend Alessandro Del Piero at The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony held in Doha, Qatar.

The 20-year-old scored a stunning overhead kick after Diogo Dalot had crossed the ball slightly better him. United eventually ran away 3-0 winners, with Rashford and Anthony Martial also on the scoresheet.

Garnacho also became the second United player to pick up the Puskas Award, after Cristiano Ronaldo did so back in 2009.

Speaking after being named as the winner, the Argentine said: "Hi everyone, it's Alejandro Garnacho here. I'm very proud to win this award, it is a proud moment for me and my family. Thank you to everyone who voted for me, especially the United fans.

"It was a great finish and I worked on this in training many times but also it was a great move from the team so it's impossible to be here without my teammates."

Garnacho continued: "It was a special goal and I will always remember it. But there are many more incredible moments to come with this team, we have a lot to look forward to together.

"Thank you for your support and have a very good Christmas."

When quizzed on his decision to leave out Garnacho and Rashford for the match against City, United boss Amorim said: "Selection. We try to evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, engagement with the team-mates, pushing the team-mates up. Everything is on the line when we analyse and try to choose the players, so that is my selection. Simple.
