Richard Keys shares wild Ruben Amorim conspiracy theory no Man Utd fan has dared to think about

Amorim made some bold comments after United's 3-1 defeat to Brighton on Sunday.

Richard Keys has shared his controversial theory on Ruben Amorim after the Manchester United head coach labelled his team as "maybe the worst" in the club's 147-year history.

United suffered their sixth home Premier League defeat of the season on Sunday, which is the most from their opening 12 home matches of a league season since 1893-94.

It was another afternoon to forget for Amorim's side as goals from Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma and Georginio Rutter handed Fabian Hurzeler's Brighton a much-deserved three points at Old Trafford.

At this stage of the season, only 13 United teams have had a lower points tally in the history of the club, with the last time being in 1986-87.

And after the full-time whistle, a no-nonsense Amorim described his side as "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United" as they linger in 13th place, 24 points behind leaders Liverpool.

"In 10 games in the Premier League, we won two," said Amorim. "Imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United. Imagine what this is for me. So we are getting a new coach that is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that.

"Like I said, I'm not going to change, no matter what. I know we can succeed, but we need to survive this moment. Because I'm not naive and I know that we need to survive now."

He added: "We are being the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know that you want headlines, but I'm saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go, your headlines."

Amorim's comments after the defeat to Brighton have certainly got people talking and now, former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys has given his take on the situation in his latest blog.

Keys, who nows works for Doha-based beIN Sports, is "convinced" Amorim is trying to get himself sacked.

"What the hell was Ruben Amorim thinking when he said [his side were the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United] yesterday?" he wrote. "Is he mad? Why would you do that? Isn’t he the man charged with making things better?

"Trust me – I really didn’t want to talk about United today, but how can I not? ‘We’re the worst side in United’s history’ screamed the Mail’s back page.

"No criticism of them. Every other outlet did the same – whether it was the socials, radio, tv or the rest of the newspaper world. I still can’t fathom what Amorim was trying to achieve. We know United are bad.

"That’s why you’re there Ruben. It’s your job to fix it – not tell us ‘I only have one way’ and follow up by telling the world your players are s*** – the very same players you need to help you out of this mess.

"I said a couple of weeks ago I thought he was trying to get the sack. I’m even more convinced now. If I was his boss I’d call him in this morning and give him his wish.

"Not only does every other team now start on the front foot knowing he believes that – but he’s actually saying to fans – already ripped off by Sunny Jim’s price rises – ‘you mugs – we’re taking your money under false pretences’. My goodness. How bad is it going to get at Old Trafford?"

Amorim, meanwhile, will persist with the 3-4-3 formation that brought him so much success at Sporting.

"The players are going to suffer, I'm sorry, the fans are going to suffer," he said on Sunday. "I have one way of doing things, I know it's going to [bring] results. But we have to suffer these moments. I think it's very clear for everybody what we are going to do."
