Sergio Aguero has picked two surprise clubs when asked about Manchester City's biggest Premier League title challengers this season.

City are currently on a poor run of form, winning just one game in their last six in the league, leaving them five points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

However, we've seen Pep Guardiola's side kick into gear in the New Year on many occasions in the past.

They are involved the the Club World Cup this week, meaning their next league game isn't until December 27 against in-form Everton at Goodison Park.

The big game at the weekend is between Arsenal and Liverpool at Anfield, with the winner likely to be top at Christmas.

Despite this, City legend Sergio Aguero has snubbed the top two when naming his former side's biggest challengers for the title this season.

The Argentine shockingly said Manchester United were still firmly in with a chance of lifting the trophy, whilst also pointing out Tottenham and Newcastle United as key contenders, as per The Standard.

"You can never sleep on Man United at this stage of the season," Aguero said.

"They are one of the biggest threats to Man City’s Premier League title. I also think Tottenham are title contenders, who have improved a lot under Ange Postecoglou.

"Even despite their ups and downs, Newcastle are also in with a chance of the title as they always put up a fight."

Given United's struggles and with the pressure mounting on manager Erik ten Hag, it's a surprise Aguero has picked City's rivals.

However, he will have fond memories of going toe to toe with the Red Devils back in 2012 when he scored his iconic goal to secure a first title for City.

Spurs have been a surprise package this season under Postecoglou with many writing them off following the departure of Harry Kane.

Then went unbeaten in 10 games at the beginning of the campaign, with victories over Liverpool, Manchester United and a draw with Arsenal during that period.

However, recently weakened by a string of injuries, they have dropped behind City into fifth.

Similarly Newcastle have dropped off this season, and now find themselves 10 points off the leaders.
