Defensive midfielders are not primarily in a team to score big or winning goals, but Manchester City's Rodri seems to emphatically buck that trend.
The 27-year-old has been at City since 2019 after making the move from Atletico Madrid and has gone on to net 19 times in just over 200 games, a fine return for a player whose primary job is to break up play in front of the rearguard.
Rodri netted the latest of his winning goals for City over the weekend in the Premier League when Pep Guardiola's side beat Sheffield United 2-1 at Bramall Lane.

City went ahead thanks to Erling Haaland's header, after the Norwegian had missed a first half penalty.
The Blades equalised through Jayden Bogle with five minutes remaining as the promoted side looked to have come from behind to claim a point against the Treble winners.
But only three minutes later, Spain international Rodri struck with an effort which ensured the Blues would claim victory in the Steel City and are now at the summit of the Premier League after three matches of the campaign with a 100% record still intact.

Perhaps Rodri's most famous goal for City came last season and is probably the most important strike in the club's history.
He scored the winner against Inter Milan in the Champions League final which secured City's first European Cup triumph and saw them complete a memorable Treble.
And it appears that the Spaniard's latest big goal for the Etihad Stadium club has not gone unnoticed.

A video compilation of Rodri's goals since joining City has emerged on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
It includes winning goals, his knack of arriving in the box at the right time or on the edge of it to perfection to fire home, as well as his aerial ability with a few headers showing he is a threat to get on the end of crosses and corners.
