Man City make final decision on Premier League winners' medals with three players set to miss out

Three players are set to miss out on medals.

Manchester City have made a final decision on which of their stars will receive Premier League winners' medals, and three players are set to miss out.

On Sunday Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions, becoming the first team in English football history to win four top flight titles in succession.

Premier League Player of the Season Phil Foden masterminded City's 3-1 victory against West Ham, meaning Arsenal's 2-1 win against Everton was in vain.

The full-time whistle at the Etihad Stadium cued jubilant celebrations, with thousands of supporters spilling onto the pitch to celebrate the club's sixth league title in seven seasons.

The trophy presentation took place once the pitch was cleared, with each player walking up the the podium one-by-one to receive a winners' medal.

City were provided with 40 commemorative medals which, under Premier League rules, they can hand out to the manager, players and officials as they see fit, so long as every player who has made at least five league appearances in the season gets one.

21 members of Pep Guardiola's squad made five appearances or more in 2023-24, leaving 19 medals to hand out to the manager, staff and players who didn't meet the appearance threshold.

Kalvin Phillips left City in January on a six-month loan to West Ham, having made four league appearances in the first half of the campaign.

It is understood that the England midfielder will receive a medal, although the same cannot be said of three of other players that briefly featured earlier this season.

Aymeric Laporte played 12 minutes before he departed for Al-Nassr last summer, while Cole Palmer clocked 10 before he joined Chelsea.

They, along with James McAtee who played one minute before joining Sheffield United on loan, are not expected to be given medals.

City have the option of requesting additional medals, but they can only be presented with the consent of the Premier League board.
