Watford have posted footage on TikTok in an attempt to prove why their goal against Manchester City in Tuesday night's Carabao Cup clash should have stood.

Tom Cleverley's side were beaten 2-1 by the Premier League holders in the competition thanks to goals from Jeremy Doku and Matheus Nunes.

There was, however, a bone of contention with City leading by just a solitary goal during the first half at the Etihad Stadium.

Watford forward Kwadwo Baah burst forward before using his strength to muscle off young debutant Kaden Braithwaite, who then finished well to beat Stefan Ortega.

But the Hornets were denied an equaliser in dramatic fashion, with referee David Webb ruling that Baah had illegally barged the defender in the process.

A little annoyed with the decision, Watford's media team decided to cause a further stir by uploading a video of a similar decision that went City's way involving Erling Haaland, as you can see below.

🚨🚨| Watford's TikTok account shared a clip of the team's disallowed goal against City yesterday and compares it to a previous goal scored in a similar manner by Man City, which was awarded.

The side-by-side footage has now been viewed over two million times with the caption reading: ''Make that 116 charges" in a cheeky reference to the ongoing hearing into City's alleged breaches of financial rules.

Watford boss Cleverley was left frustrated by the decision, with his side crashing out of the competition at the third-round stage.

“For me, that’s a perfectly good goal," the 35-year-old told the Watford Observer.

“Baah is a strong and explosive player against a young lad, and it can maybe look over aggressive, but it’s actually shoulder to shoulder. It’s disappointing but after the controversy at the weekend you don’t expect to get those ones.

The former Man Utd midfielder was also asked whether he felt if the incident happened at the other end of the pitch the decision would have been different.

“No comment on that one," added Clerveley.

"All I’ll say is I think a perfectly good goal has been disallowed.

"I’m disappointed for Kwadwo [Baah] as this would have been a big stage for him to score such a decent goal on.”

Watford did grab a goal back late on through Tom Ince but may have felt as if Baah's goal could have changed the outcome given it would have pulled the Hornets level at the time.

City were drawn to face Tottenham away from home in the round of 16 of the competition on Wednesday, with the tie set to be played on 29 October.
