Man City star Phil Foden is already planning a surprise career change that no-one saw coming

Manchester City star Phil Foden has revealed plans for life after football.

Manchester City star Phil Foden has revealed his plans for a surprise career change away from football.

The England international already has countless honours to his name despite still only being 24 years of age.

Foden, who made his debut for City back in 2017, has been integral to Pep Guardiola's plans during his success at Etihad Stadium.

But with a burning desire to focus his attention elsewhere after retirement, Foden already knows what is likely to come next.

Foden is a keen angler and is said to have even indulged in the pasttime during England's Euro 2024 endeavours.

He was recently interviewed on fishing tackle brand Korda’s YouTube channel, discussing his plans for after football.

"This is me when I retire. A vlog for fishing," Foden began.

“When I was around five, my old man would always take me and I have loved it ever since.

“I was just catching whatever really, the smaller fish, then the more times I did it I got into catching the bigger fish, the carp.

“I go to my local places and catch whatever. It’s the buzz — whatever fishing I am doing I enjoy.”

During the YouTube video, Foden caught a 28lb carp — which is just shy of his 39lb record.

“At the Euros training camp we had lakes on the golf course," the 24-year-old added.

"I would get the rod out and catch a few carp.”

A rare hobby, Foden has also in the past admitted most of his team-mates are often left confused by his obsession.

“Probably about 95% of the football lads don’t enjoy it,” says Foden, who missed the City players’ 2018 Premier League title celebrations due to a pre-planned fishing trip with his father.

“The odd one likes fishing, so when people find out they say: ‘what a weird sport to enjoy’. They don’t understand why you enjoy it.

“Obviously, they need to go and try it. I think it’s the perfect hobby to rest your legs and have some down time.”

Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Memphis Depay, John Terry and Sergio Aguero have also in the past expressed their passion for the sport.
