On Wednesday evening, Manchester City fans were left baffled by Pep Guardiola’s assessment of their 2-0 defeat in the Champions League against Juventus.
In Turin, City put in yet another poor showing, now seeing them in 22nd place in the 36-team Champions League group phase.
The Premier League champions are still within the ninth to 24th place bracket, which would allow them to secure a play-off to keep their hopes of reaching the knockout stages of the competition alive.

Dusan Vlahovic opened the scoring on 53 minutes before Weston McKennie finished the job with 15 minutes left.
The defeat means Guardiola’s side have won just one game in their last ten matches.
Despite the less-than-ideal result, the City boss explained how he thought his team “played good”.

"We played good, really, really good,” he told TNT Sports on Wednesday.
"We concede few, some transition happened, but I am so proud for these players. They give everything, and they tried and now we live in this period and hopefully we can change results.
“I know it's difficult, in the Champions League in Europe. We played really good. Today, we have done really well, didn't lose many balls like in the past, we tried, we arrived in the positions.
"Against Italian teams, [who] defend so deep, so compact. Master of these kind of situations. We play who we are and we missed the result but the performance is there."

However, City fans were not pleased with his comments, given the torrid run of results of late and shared their thoughts on social media.
One said: “He thinks they played well. Is he in another dimension? They played as bad as they could. One win in the last ten matches. The only worse state than this is losing 10 out of 10.”
A second added: “Sorry, but he's lost it if he thinks they played well, get rid of the walking football.”

A third commented: “He seems to be kidding the reporter a bit.”
Next up, Guardiola's side will host city rivals Manchester United at the Etihad on Sunday afternoon.
Their next Champions League match is on January 22, when they will travel to Paris to face PSG, who are also in need of a win as they currently sit 25th in the competitions group phase.
