Having already claimed the Premier League and FA Cup, City were hoping to make history against Inter Milan and finally win the big one in Istanbul.
It proved to be a cagey affair in the first half, with City hit with a huge blow as talisman Kevin De Bruyne was forced off with a hamstring injury.
The half-time team talk was nothing akin to what happened in 2005 when Liverpool found themselves 3-0 down to AC Milan at the same stadium.

But Haaland, scorer of 52 goals in his debut season, was an extremely vocal presence.
Sitting shirtless, Haaland kept a completely cool head and motivated his team.
He said: "We're gonna have this. We're gonna win. Don't think boys. It's 0-0. Don't think. No worries."

Rodri, who ended up scoring the winning goal, appeared very frustrated with how the game was going.
But Haaland reassured him, saying: "He will change it. Don't think, relax."
The fascinating clip shows that as well as being a devastating goalscorer, Haaland is a loud and respected voice at City.
He is still only 23 years of age yet has maturity beyond his years and maintains that even if the most intense environments.
