Fans spotted Virgil van Dijk's telling reaction to Trent Alexander-Arnold against Man Utd

The Liverpool captain wasn't happy with his teammate's performance on Sunday.

Liverpool fans have spotted an awkward exchange between and Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold during the 2-2 draw with Manchester United.

On Sunday, Premier League leaders Liverpool drew 2-2 with long-term rivals United in a thrilling clash at Anfield.

Throughout the match, Liverpool defender Alexander-Arnold came under fire for his performance, after the Englishman was deemed to be at fault for both goals conceded by his side.

And now, fans think that they have spotted a moment during the game that shows how Liverpool captain Van Dijk felt about his teammate's poor display on Sunday.

After Alexander-Arnold halted an attack by United winger Alejandro Garnacho late in the match by kicking the ball out of play, Van Dijk can be seen staring at his teammate and shaking his head

Reacting to the moment on X, one fan wrote: "Genuinely that look spoke a thousand words."

Another agreed, adding: "The head shaking too, you can tell he’s livid."

While one claimed: "VVD displayed how millions of LFC fans felt about this Trent stinker today."

And one fan wrote: "I actually thought Van Dijk was about to punch Trent, that death glare he gave him near the end was ridiculous."

Alexander-Arnold failed to win a single duel during his 86 minutes on the pitch on Sunday, while Conor Bradley, who replaced his teammate late in the match, won his first duel as soon as he came on.

The poor performance from the 26-year-old comes amid links that he will leave Liverpool either in the January transfer window or on a free transfer in the summer to join La Liga giants Real Madrid.

However, Liverpool manager Arne Slot is adamant that the links to Madrid did not have any impact on Alexander-Arnold during the match.

Speaking post-match, the Dutch manager said: "I think nine out of 10 people will tell you it affected him but I am one of the 10 that tells you I don’t think that affected him.

"What affected him was that he had to play Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot, who are two starters for Portugal. Great, great, great players.

"That’s my opinion and probably everybody will tell you it had to do with the rumours. My opinion is different."
