Trent Alexander-Arnold breaks silence after his reaction to Liverpool substitution vs Brentford goes viral

Trent Alexander-Arnold breaks silence after his reaction to Liverpool substitution vs Brentford goes viral

Arne Slot has also explained his decision to bring off Alexander-Arnold.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has given his take on Liverpool's win over Brentford as the full-back's 'frosty' reaction to being substituted continues to be a talking point.

The Reds made it two wins from two on Sunday afternoon as goals from Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah sealed all three points at Anfield.

It was an impressive performance from the home side, who completed 92% of their passes against the Bees – their best passing accuracy in a Premier League game on record since 2003/04.

But a moment off the pitch grabbed headlines. After impressing on the right flank, Trent Alexander-Arnold didn't look best pleased with being replaced in the 72nd minute along with Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz.

Footage soon emerged of his disinterested reaction when Arne Slot spoke to him on the bench and unsurprisingly, his reaction became a huge talking point amid rumours surrounding his future.

Liverpool boss Slot was asked about the incident in his post-match press conference. “He didn’t look that happy after being taken off, you mean?” Slot said when asked about Trent's reaction.

“I understand. Every player wants to play 90 minutes but I don’t think the players that were on the bench from the start were really happy with the choice I made."

Slot added: “Trent came back from the national team, where in the beginning of the tournament he played quite a lot and then he didn’t.

“He had a few weeks off, came back and it is only his third game and we have to take care of him. We need him for the whole season and not only for the first two games.

“The good thing for me is that I have a very good backup as well with Conor, that means we are taking care of Trent, but he played a good game.”

Alexander-Arnold has since broken his social media silence by giving his thoughts on Sunday's win. "First win at home," he wrote on X, formerly Twitter. "Fans were incredible as always."

In terms of his future, Liverpool are keen to initiate contract negotiations with Alexander-Arnold in the near future, according to Fabrizio Romano, who says: “They will have their chance to keep Trent at the club and extend his contract. Let’s see how talks will go.”

Real Madrid continue to be strongly linked with a move for the England international.
