Trent Alexander-Arnold has revealed a surprising career goal, and it has got Liverpool fans talking about his future at the club.

Since graduating from the Liverpool academy and joining the senior team in 2016, Alexander-Arnold has developed into one the best defenders in the world.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Liverpool fans are eager to keep the talented Englishman at the club ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

But after the defender spoke about a surprise career goal that he hopes to achieve, Liverpool fans are worried it could suggest he is preparing to leave the club.

While speaking to Sky Sports, Alexander-Arnold was asked to pick which of four potential career goals he hoped to achieve the most.

"My main target? I'd say to win a Ballon d'Or," he replied.

“Because I believe I can. I want to be the first full-back to ever do it”.

The other options offered to the 26-year-old were to win another Champions League title, having already done so in 2019, to win a trophy with England or to become Liverpool's captain.

And worryingly for Liverpool fans, the first one that Alexander-Arnold decided against was to captain his boyhood club, leading some fans to argue that it could confirm the rumours that he will join Real Madrid in the summer.

Reacting to a clip of the decision on social media platform X. one fan wrote: "If Trent wants to win the Ballon d'Or then he’s obviously off to Madrid. It’s a much easier league and it makes players look better than they are. That’s why nobody wins it from the Premier League. It’s far too competitive for individuals to shine."

Another agreed, writing: "Gotta be honest, Trent saying how much he’d love to win the Ballon d’Or feels like the biggest hint yet that he’s off to Madrid."

However, not all Liverpool fans think think that joining Los Blancos would be the best idea if he hopes to claim a Ballon d'Or award during his career.

One fan wrote: "If this is his goal, going to Real Madrid, where Mbappe, Vini, and Bellingham constantly compete for player of the match, makes no sense to me."

And another Liverpool fan agreed, pointing out how close Alexander-Arnold's captain Virgil van Dijk came to winning the award in 2019.

They added: "I mean, van Dijk was less then 10 points away from winning it few years ago,I believe Trent can also win it, if he stays at Liverpool"
