Liverpool immediately reject bid from Premier League rival for player as David Ornstein drops important news

Liverpool will demand a much higher fee to consider selling the player.

Liverpool have rejected a bid from a fellow Premier League club for one of their young stars.

Liverpool are gearing up for their first season under the stewardship of Arne Slot, who replaced Jurgen Klopp as manager over the summer.

Slot's side have looked sharp during their pre-season tour of the United States, beating Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United despite missing several key starters due to involvement in Euro 2024 and the Copa America earlier in the summer.

One of the players who has capitalised on the absence of more senior squad members is Fabio Carvalho, whose performances have seriously impressed Slot.

But the Liverpool coach is not the only manager who likes the look of the 21-year-old.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, Southampton have had an offer worth up to £15 million for Carvalho rejected by Liverpool.

Club bosses are unwilling to sanction another loan spell for the youngster, who impressed at Hull City in the second half of last season.

Liverpool would only consider significantly higher permanent bids for Carvalho, especially as Slot plans to use him regularly this coming season.

Slot could use the Portuguese youth international in a No.10 role in his 4-2-3-1 formation, although the coach also rates him in his favoured left-sided position.

Carvalho has looked sharp during pre-season, scoring against both Arsenal and United.

While the youngster would prefer to stay at Anfield, his main priority is regular minutes. He does not want to be a bit-part player, and would consider a move if it promised him a role as a regular starter.

The fact that Liverpool have so many players who can play both centrally and on the left - Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo and Diogo Jota - means Carvalho might not get the regular starting minutes he feels he needs to take the next step in his career and development.

Southampton boss Russell Martin held talks with Carvalho in January before the player ended up joining Hull on loan, but Carvalho was said to have been impressed with what he heard.
